Recent advances in HASE chemistry are providing means for replacing Cellulose that result in increased thickening efficiency, improved application, microbial resistance, and ease of addition while maintaining in-can feel and ability to dilute the paint similar to cellulose-based paint.
Cellulose-based additives have been used to thicken paints and coatings for well over five decades.The thickening mechanism is by volume exclusion resulting in poor application properties such as inferior applied hide and poor spatter resistance
