Job Summary

The Shift Supervisor serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical skills and experience to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site’s manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for promoting a positive health and safety culture in the workplace, managing operators development and all activities on site during shift hours. You will ensure that employees are adhering to the schedule and completing tasks expected of them during your shift in a safe and effective manner.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

 

Ensure adherence to all site Safety, Health and Environmental rules, procedures and regulations by all personnel attending the site.

 

  • Issue, control and monitor permit to work on site.
  • Control the operation of all plant and associated equipment in order to achieve production and quality requirements in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Control raw material deliveries and ensure they are receipted into JDE.
  • Responsible for the effective use of Labour, Materials, Utilities to achieve Overall Equipment Effectiveness targets.
  • Ensure effective communication oral and written including shift handover logs/checklist and site patrol.
  • Record of incidents on safety database.
  • Delegate tasks to operators and shift engineers.
  • Ensure all raw materials and finished goods are backflushed into JDE.
  • Communicate effectively with the engineering department to resolve any maintenance issues, and ensure work orders are entered into the system.
  • Manage operators training and development on plant, including the training of a backup shift supervisor.
  • Carry out Year End and Mid Year Reviews with direct reports in Workday.
  • Ensure holidays are recorded in Workday and minimum staffing levels are met during shift hours to ensure efficient production.
  • Ensure main safety hazards on site are known and protections in place to mitigate against these.

 

Knowledge / Experience / Skills Required

  • Experience of Scada Control Processes.
  • Flexible / can-do working approach.
  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Experience of continuous and batch processes in a chemical manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of Permit to Work Systems (Hot Work/Vessel Entry).
  • Experience of Oracle/JDE or similar ERP systems is preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure, make clear decisions and meet targets/.
  • Ability to motivate a team.

What will it take

  • Educated to HNC level, or equivalent, in a relative discipline or 3 years’ practical experience in chemical manufacturing.
  • First aid at work qualification.
