Job Summary

This role will be responsible for developing and identifying new and unique raw materials for the personal care industry. It is a key role in expanding the current portfolio under the guidance of the Personal Care Innovation Manager in line with the business strategy. The position will primarily involve lab work, testing and developing new ingredients in order to optimize cost, improve performance and deliver new solutions to meet market needs.

Job Description

Responsibilities

1 - You work within a team to provide guidance within the set strategy to generate new products that meet both customer and industry demands

2 - You provide direction to process engineers in developing and implementing processes for the manufacture of new products developed in the laboratory.

3 -You will conduct bench scale experiments, 500g scale, necessary to develop new materials following good laboratory practices, and adhering to proper safety procedures.

4 - You identify and characterize inorganic and organic compounds to determine composition, physical and chemical properties and structure/performance relationships utilizing spectroscopic, chromatographic, thermal, microscopic and other analytical techniques.

5 - You lead multiple projects simultaneously within specified timelines and budgets to deliver successful outcomes.

6 - You perform an active role in new product brainstorming sessions with Marketing and R&D. 

7 - You provide project updates and input on direction and interact with senior management and broad personal care team.

Decision making

Typically, you have the authority to make decisions related to technical direction, methodologies, approaches and product development processes. You can also make decisions related to project execution, including timelines and milestones. Higher-level approvals are required for those related to significant budget allocations, strategic shifts, or major collaborations that have substantial financial or long-term implications.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Advanced understanding of product development processes and methodologies  
  • Advance knowledge in GLP and lab safety.   
  • Advanced knowledge in chemical synthesis at gram or kilogram scale  
  • Intermediate knowledge of the personal Care Industry and key trends
  • Intermediate knowledge of the principals of green chemistry
  • Basic awareness of regulatory guidelines and restrictions for new product development

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or related field

Experience: 7+ years of hands-on experience in product development 

IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with a strong capability for presentation creation, Project management software

Language Skills: Verbal and written fluency in which English and Portuguese

Working arrangements: Lab position, on site 5 days weekly

Traveling required: Minimal travel, local trade shows and customer visits may be requested
